The Vehicles

The Buffalo Run is neither about speed nor style, its’ about adventure. Using vehicles that have seen better days but were wholly unsuitable for the trip even when they were new, certainly adds to the adventure.

Basically you can use any vehicle you like as long as the purchase value doesn’t exceed £750 (€750) however, once you have bought your car you can then customise it any way you see fit and up to any cost.

Any type of vehicle can be used, just as long as you stick to the rule that the purchase value does not exceed £750.

Preparing your car

You can modify or customise your car however you wish. Feel free to paint it or cover it with stickers, all we ask is for you to leave a little space for the Buffalo Run logo we provide you. As the purpose is to raise money for good causes you may also want to think about advertising any sponsors you have particularly as this kind of event attracts a lot of publicity. If heading out for the World Cup you may want to think about emblazing your vehicle with your national team’s colours! Just imagine a 10 year old Ford Fiesta heading out of the Sahara draped in your footy team’s national flag!

Regarding the essentials, well you don’t want to make things too easy for yourself do you? A couple of jerry cans, a spare tyre or two, PLENTY of gaffa tape and a whole lot of optimism may do the trick. Oh and don’t worry about whether you’ll break down or not, you will! And if for some complete quirk of fate you don’t, bad luck!, because those are the stories you will be dining out on for years later. Believe it or not, the more that goes wrong - the more fun you will have.

Disposing of your Car

Unless you intend to make a holiday of the rally and drive back to Europe, you can either sell or dispose of your vehicle in an environmentally sound manner by taking it to a local scrapyard at the finish.
