Count down to start

The 2010 Buffalo Run sees teams of crazy football fans from all over Europe...

What’s it all gonna cost?

Working out the cost is not an exact science and how much you spend will ultimately be down to you, however if you’re cunning, crafty, lucky and not adverse to some creative fundraising, the trip can cost you very little..

Entry Fee: £665

Note that entry fees are per team so the more you manage to squeeze in to your car the cheaper per person this will work out (although you may live to regret taking 5 across the Sahara in a Nissan Micra)

Visas: £200 -£400

This will depend on which passport you hold as well as which countries you choose to cross. We provide a visa service should you wish.

Vehicle: £100 -£750

Depends on how much you wish to spend. Just make sure that your car is worth no more than £750. Again, the more you have on your team then the more there are to split this cost between.

Petrol: £400ish

Bit of a hard one this as is dependent on route, conditions, type of vehicle and price of oil. Once in Africa, petrol is often a fraction of the price compared to Europe.

Food & Accommodation: £300+

This will depend on just how far you are prepared to go native!

Food is very cheap throughout Africa and hotels and hostels usually cost between £5 & £10 per night. Obviously being Africa there will be areas when hotels are not available and camping or sleeping in the car are the best options so make sure you take a tent, gas stove and other camping stuff or be prepared to sleep on the back seat.

Repairs:

Yes there are likely to be repairs, it’s really a question of to what degree. It’s always good to carry spares and a tool set.

Insurance:

This will not be much. For most other countries insurance can be purchased inexpensively on the border.

Bribes:

It’s possible to get away with no bribes over the entire trip, or likewise, to get fleeced at every border, it really depends on how good you are haggling with the locals.  Remember a smile gets you a long way!

Beer:

Make sure you bring enough money to cover yourself for beer (when not driving).
